What a session!!!!

My van had acquired two punctures last night, so I had to sort that out first, which meant using Anna's car to drive around town looking for suitable replacements and therefore giving Anna a lift in to work first thing. This obviously gave me a good excuse for not going to work at 8am as usual.

Anyway, I had it all sorted by 10am and thought it seemed silly to waste the opportunity of a windsurf session so off I went.

The wind was around 18 knots when I started rigging, but was at 20 knots by the time I got on the water and dead onshore. As it was always going to be a short session, I decided to rig big (99 ltr board 5.7m sail) to make sure I was nicely powered up and able to get out through the biggish surf in the onshore winds.

In the end, I was completely maxed out on the 5.7m and would probably have been better off on my wave board with a 5m. It was still an excellent session though as I had pelnty of power to blast upwind and out through the surf, before bearing away onto mad reaches parallel to the shore. After a couple of runs in and out through the surf I decided to sail off towards Borth and sailed right down to the Lifeboat Station (about 3 miles away) and back. It was brilliant, absolutely flying along amongst head high swells and white caps!.

I then played around in the waves again for a bit until I got smacked in the face by a monster out the back. I managed to hang on after getting smacked by it, but just as I recovered my bearing and was about to laugh at myself as it was quite a whack it gave me, the same wave had another shot at me and this time hit me broadside, held on to me and washed me around for a while then spat me out on the beach!!! It was quite a rinsing, but also strangely quite enjoyable too. I sailed around for a bit more after that, but the wind had picked up even more now and hanging on was beginning to get a little difficult... Probably a good thing really as it was time I went off and earnt some money.

When I checked the wind strength back on the beach it was around 28 knots with gusts to 34 knots.... No wonder I was beginning to get overpowered!
